The biggest mistake I see on commercial pool leak detection calls is going straight to the pool. Someone does a quick walk around, checks the fittings, does a dye test, and writes a report. Meanwhile the autofill ran all night, the backwash log shows twice the normal frequency, and the surge tank level has been trending down for six weeks. None of that is in the report because nobody asked for the records before starting.

In a residential pool, the history question is "how much water are you losing and when did it start?" In a commercial pool, the history question is "can I see the water meter data, the autofill logs, the backwash records, and the chemical logs for the last 30 days?" Those records are the starting point. The field work comes after the records tell you which category of loss to focus on first.

The report language also matters differently in commercial work. A confirmed finding is a confirmed finding.
