What the Objection Usually Means
When a customer says the price is too high, they usually mean one of two things: they did not expect the number, or they do not yet understand what the number buys them. Both are fixable with an explanation - not a discount.
If the price explanation happens before booking, most of this objection disappears. Customers who are surprised by price after the fact are harder to handle than customers who heard the price and the reason before they said yes.
What to Say
"I understand. The fee is not just for someone showing up with a dye bottle. You are paying for the phone intake, the drive, the equipment, getting in the water, testing the plumbing lines, documenting what we find with photos, the report, and the expertise to know what the results actually mean. That process is what gets you a real answer instead of a guess."
"The expensive part is not the evaluation. The expensive part is cutting the wrong section of deck, replacing a part that was not causing the problem, or letting the leak keep running for another year because nobody knew where it was. Our job is to find the answer before money gets spent in the wrong place."
"You can absolutely find someone cheaper. The question is what that process includes. If they are not getting in the water, not testing the plumbing lines, and not giving you documentation - you may spend less today and more later when the first repair does not fix it."
Do not chase every customer. Some customers will always choose the lowest price regardless of what you explain. That is their right. The right customer wants a real answer and understands why the process has value. Price your service correctly, explain it clearly, and let the customer decide. Chasing a price objection by lowering your fee signals that you were not serious about it in the first place.
Prevention Is Better Than the Objection
The best handling of price objections is preventing them through clear booking communication. When the price and its reasoning are explained before the appointment, most customers arrive already understanding the value. The objection usually happens when price was not explained at booking - or when it was quoted without context.
